Stefano Arienti<\/h1>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"exhibition-hero__subtitle\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"exhibition-hero__extra\"><p><em>Curated by Angela Vettese<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"exhibition-hero__image\">\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1163\" height=\"1800\" src=\"https:\/\/museodiocesano.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/fiori-stefano-arienti-2019-1.webp\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"Composition of blue flowers, by Stefano Arienti\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, 50vw\" srcset=\"https:\/\/museodiocesano.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/fiori-stefano-arienti-2019-1.webp 1163w, https:\/\/museodiocesano.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/fiori-stefano-arienti-2019-1-194x300.webp 194w, https:\/\/museodiocesano.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/fiori-stefano-arienti-2019-1-662x1024.webp 662w, https:\/\/museodiocesano.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/fiori-stefano-arienti-2019-1-768x1189.webp 768w, https:\/\/museodiocesano.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/fiori-stefano-arienti-2019-1-992x1536.webp 992w\" \/>\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\t<nav class=\"exhibition-section-nav\" aria-label=\"Exhibition sections\"><ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li><a href=\"#mostra\">Exhibition<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul><\/nav>\n\t<div id=\"mostra\" class=\"wp-block-columns exhibition-content-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-02c2109c wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--80)\"><div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-primary-color has-text-color has-h-3-font-size\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">Exhibition<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">A new chapter in the program of exhibitions by contemporary artists within one of Milan\u2019s most historic complexes, the exhibition presents works that engage with their setting and its traces of the past: historic furnishings, stones dating to the time of Saint Ambrose and works of early art.<br>For this occasion, Arienti has created a new work in dialogue with the large panel of the <em>Lamentation over the Dead Christ<\/em> by Altobello Melone (Cremona, 1490\/91 \u2013 before 1543), recently restored, on loan from the Archbishop\u2019s Palace in Milan and exceptionally exhibited at the Museo Diocesano.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">The exhibition itinerary starts from the early Christian cemetery where a series of flowers painted in tempera on paper lead the visitor to reflect on the theme of the necropolis of Christian martyrs and on the practice of cult of the dead, and continues in the basilica of Sant&#8217;Eustorgio; here there are references to popular decoration, such as the carpets dyed black or red in the Chapter House and in the Monumental Sacristy, and reinterpretations of works of art such as the\u00a0<em>Sunflowers<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<em>Irises<\/em>\u00a0by Van Gogh, whose backgrounds, covered with gold and silver sheets, recall the continuity between still life painting and icons; thus other masterpieces by Van Gogh and Renoir underwent the intervention of Arienti who gave the installation an unusual depth through the use of plasticine which increased the materiality of the colour.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">The reinterpretation of the\u00a0<em>Procession of the Magi<\/em>\u00a0by Michelino da Besozzo, in the Solarian chapels, where the reinterpretation on a green cloth has been superimposed on a curtain, ideally introduces the room of the Museo Diocesano where the\u00a0<em>Lamentation over the Dead Christ<\/em>\u00a0by Altobello da Melone is exhibited.
