The Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini is one of Milan’s leading cultural hubs: set within one of the most important monumental complexes in the city, it stands out for its history, its location and its collections.
The venue is located close to the Darsena, an area redeveloped for EXPO and certainly one of the most appealing in the city.
It stands in the cloisters of S. Eustorgio, a complex that also includes the Basilica, of late Romanesque foundation, and the Dominican convent. The exhibition spaces, opened in 2001, occupy the second cloister, which was restored after the damage suffered during the Second World War and laid out to house the museum’s permanent collection. The collection comprises around a thousand works from the 3rd to the 21st century, ranging from those closely linked to the territory of the Diocese and the figure of Saint Ambrose to the sacred art of Lucio Fontana.
Conferences, dinners, concerts, events and private functions can be held in the Sala dell’Arciconfraternita (250 square metres) and in the enchanting cloister, which has a total area of more than 2,000 sq m, of which 600 are portico and 1,400 are beautifully kept lawn.

The cloister is the ideal place for receptions and dinners, especially in the warmer months, when tables and furnishings sit in dialogue with the 14th-century colonnade, which provides an evocative backdrop for all kinds of settings. The cloister can also be fitted with a marquee, allowing it to be used even when the weather is less than ideal. Any kind of event can take place in a precious and exclusive setting, in a place rich in charm and culture, a bridge between present and past.
The Sala dell’Arciconfraternita, a 240 sq m space located within the Museum’s interior, is equipped with the technical facilities that make it suitable for conferences, debates and corporate events; yet the remarkable works of art adorning its walls – the cycle of the Arciconfraternita del Santissimo Sacramento, a series of sixteen large canvases (“quadroni”) created in the 17th and 18th centuries by artists such as il Legnanino, Filippo Abbiati and Carlo Preda – also make it ideal for gala dinners and prestigious events.
