Exhibition
The Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini continues its path of comparison with contemporary art, already started some time ago, understanding it as a reflection on the sacred and spirituality: it turns positively to the exploration of new languages, encouraging dialogue between these and the great artistic tradition that the Museum embodies. The museum “place” is not only the physical space in which the projects are hosted, but has the function of generating new thoughts and paths, opportunities for dialogue and in-depth analysis. The projects, built in partnership with other institutions, are finally part of the attempt to bring a new audience closer to the Diocesan.
With this in mind, the Museum willingly accepted the collaboration proposal received from the non-profit organization Italian Friends of The Citizens Foundation, and has become home to the “Art for Education: Contemporary Artists from Pakistan” initiative, the first collective exhibition of contemporary Pakistani art in Italy. The initiative was created to support, through the universal language of art,The Citizens Foundation, the Pakistani non-governmental organization that has been promoting quality education in Pakistan for more than twenty years. The artistic operation is therefore closely linked to a social and humanitarian purpose of supporting the schools managed by The Citizens Foundation on Pakistani territory.
On display are sixty artists, internationally established personalities and emerging young people: this allows us to offer the visitor a broad and heterogeneous look at a culture far from ours – linked in some ways to workshop traditions and an artisanal skill now unusual to Western eyes – and thus to contribute to knowledge of contemporary Pakistani art and, more generally, of the culture of that country.
We therefore identify in this exhibition the possibility for the Museo Diocesano to offer the city an opportunity to dialogue with cultures different from ours, in this case crossing continental borders and coming into contact with unusual artistic realities and panoramas, convinced that the language of contemporary art can help understanding and intercultural dialogue.
