Exhibition
The exhibition presents around fifty images by the English photographer who has become the voice of the marginalised through his black-and-white and colour photographs, which capture the faces of that hidden and invisible humanity populating the streets of the great cities of Europe and the United States.
A self-taught photographer, Lee Jeffries began his career almost by chance, on the day before the 2008 London Marathon, when he took a photograph of a young homeless girl sitting in a shop doorway; reproached for having done so without permission, Jeffries stopped to talk to her, to ask her about her past, to establish a connection that went beyond mere curiosity and reached deep into the soul of the person before him.
From then on he began to take an interest in and to document the lives of the homeless, from the alleys of Los Angeles to the most hidden and dangerous areas of the cities of France and Italy.
Through his gaze and his spiritual art, as he himself likes to call it, Lee Jeffries brings homeless people out of the darkness in which they are confined and seeks to restore light and dignity to every human being.
His most distinctive signature is the portrait; his style is characterised by strongly contrasted close-up framing and by very close interactions with his subjects, whose faces he is able to bring out in all their extraordinary expressive power.
