Exhibition

The Museums of the Sibillini Museum Network present to the Milanese public “Sibillini Masterpieces. The Marche and the Places of Beauty”, curated by Daniela Tisi and Vittorio Sgarbi.
A prestigious selection of works, coming from the places in the Marche affected by the 2016 earthquake, will be exhibited at the Museo Diocesano in Milan, from 21 December to 30 June 2018.

On display are masterpieces by great masters such as Perugino, Fortunato Duranti, Spadino, Cristoforo Munari, Cristoforo Unterperger, Corrado Giaquinto, Simone De Magistris, Ignazio Stern, Nicola di Ulisse da Siena, Salvatore Monosilio, Vincenzo Pagani: cultural riches of a territory where art and beauty must be preserved.

The exhibition is created by the Marche Region and the Sibillini Museum Network in collaboration with the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, ANCI Marche and ANCI Lombardy and the Museo Diocesano in Milan.

The natural link existing in Italy between museum and territory is demonstrated in an exemplary way by the Sibillini Museum Network, which was created to promote in a unified way the artistic and cultural heritage of the ten participating municipalities in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo and Macerata. A widespread network of museums accompanies the visitor to discover the cultural landscape of the Sibillini, rich in precious archaeological evidence, extraordinary artistic masterpieces and the knowledge, habits and customs of the communities that determined them, in a continuous dialogue between man and nature that has molded and shaped the Marche region for centuries.

After the seismic events of 2016, the museum network, fulfilling the task of actively protecting the territory, committed itself to the emergency, ensuring rapid safety of the collections preserved within the damaged museums.

It was thus possible to define an exhibition itinerary that aims to bring to the attention of the general public the artistic treasures of the Marche, jealously guarded in our villages.
Each work reflects local creativity, connects to the places and stories of the centers of origin, interpreting the territory in which it lives and to which it belongs.

The exhibition itinerary is divided into five sections which represent some territories of the Sibillini Museum Network and aims to convey the feeling of attachment of the communities towards a heritage felt, now more than ever, as a central element of their identity and their future.

The Sibillini masterpieces are the trait d’union between museums and the territory, the true protagonist of the exhibition with its fragile beauty full of traditions, art and nature, which makes it among the most fascinating in Italy.

In the Sibillini Mountains, truth and legend merge, referring to a primordial whole with a magical flavour, giving body to an evocative image of this extraordinary land.
