Exhibition
Once again this year, the Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini presents the exhibition dedicated to the Sony World Photography Awards, now in their seventeenth edition and established as a key annual event for photography enthusiasts, paying tribute to the finest international photography and spotlighting the works and stories that made the greatest impression over the past year.
Among the photographs presented in Milan, one that stands out is Spiralkampagnen: Forced Contraception and Unintended Sterilisation of Greenlandic Women by Juliette Pavy, the French photographer awarded the prestigious title of Photographer of the Year. Her documentary work focuses on the deep and enduring repercussions of the campaign of forced contraception and sterilisation of Greenlandic women, imposed by the Danish authorities during the 1960s and 1970s.
This year too, awareness of environmental themes was underlined by the award of the Sustainability Prize, won by Kathleen Orlinsky (United States) with the series America’s First Wilderness. Orlinsky’s photographic project, which highlights the landscape, wildlife and people of the area known as the Gila Wilderness, in south-eastern New Mexico, will also be on display within the Milan exhibition.
