Exhibition
Following the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony, held on 16 April at Somerset House in London, the winning works are on display in Italy at the Museo Diocesano.
Now in their eighteenth edition, the Sony World Photography Awards have become an unmissable event for photography enthusiasts. This prestigious annual occasion celebrates the finest international photography, spotlighting the most significant works and stories of the past year.
Among the 141 photographs presented in Milan, by 52 different authors, one that stands out is The Anthropocene Illusion by Zed Nelson, the British photographer awarded the prestigious title of Photographer of the Year. The project examines the artificial spaces created by humankind as a means of “experiencing” and interacting with nature – from safari parks to nature reserves and resorts, natural history museums, zoos and sustainable cities. Nelson uses these constructions as a lens through which to explore the dissonance between the human desire to stay in touch with nature and the ongoing environmental destruction caused by human activity.
Among the works on display, one to note is that of Chantal Pinzi – Shred the Patriarchy – first place in the Sport category of the Professional competition. Also on show are the works of the other Italian photographers who came second and third in various categories: Giovanni Capriotti (2nd place, Perspectives category) and Alessandro Gandolfi (3rd place, Still Life category).
